Single Vision Lenses
Single vision lenses correct one focal distance — near or far. The most commonly prescribed lens type. We can often produce same-day for straightforward prescriptions.
Close Focus
Near Vision
Best for: Reading · Close-up work · Crafts
Optimised for close distances — typically 25–40cm. Ideal for reading, crafts, or any task that requires sharp focus at near range. The most commonly prescribed single vision lens for reading glasses.
Distance Focus
Distance Vision Most Common
Best for: Driving · TV · Distance clarity
Corrects your vision for clear sight at distance. Typically prescribed for driving, watching TV, and everyday distance tasks. Often available same day for straightforward prescriptions.
Mid-Range Focus
Intermediate Vision
Best for: Computer screens · Dashboard displays · Arms-length work
Designed for arm's-length distances — typically 50–80cm. A great choice for dedicated computer glasses or workstation use, giving a wide, comfortable field of vision at the distance your screen sits.
All clear and Transitions single vision lenses include anti-reflective (AR) coating as standard.
Bifocal Lenses
Bifocal lenses have two distinct optical zones — distance above, near below — separated by a visible line. A reliable choice for wearers who prefer a clear, defined near zone or who find varifocals unsuitable.

Bifocal
Best for: Reading & distance · Clear zone separation
With a distinct near zone set into the lower portion of the lens, bifocals provide reliable near and distance vision in one pair. Available in round segment, flat-top, and executive (full-width) designs. A tried-and-tested choice for wearers who know exactly what they want.
Coatings & Upgrades
A good coating transforms a great lens into an exceptional one. All prices are added to your chosen base lens.
Anti-reflective (AR) coating is included as standard on all clear and Transitions lenses. Transitions photochromic lenses are available as an add-on treatment — see our Treatments page for full details.
Anti-Reflective Coating
Included as standard on clear and Transitions lenses. Eliminates distracting reflections — essential for night driving and screen use.
Anti-Scratch Hardening
A hardening coat applied to the lens surface to resist everyday scratches and extend the life of your lenses.
Polarised Tint
Eliminates glare from water and road surfaces — premium choice for drivers and outdoor use.
Fashion Tint
Light, medium or dark tint in grey, brown or green. Other tints may be available in lighter gradings — ask Stewart. Prescription sunglasses in your chosen frame.
Driving Lens Options
Specialist lenses optimised for low-light and night driving — reduces haloing and improves contrast at the wheel.

Lens Index — How Thin Can You Go?
Lens index describes how efficiently a material bends light. A higher index means the same corrective power in a thinner, lighter lens. All lens prices above are quoted at standard index 1.5 — add the upcharge below for thinner options.

Single Vision, Varifocal, or Bifocal?
Single vision lenses correct one distance — near or far. Most common, and what we can often produce same day.
Varifocal lenses (progressive) provide a seamless range of vision — distance, intermediate, and near — in a single lens with no visible line. The gold standard for most wearers over 40.
Bifocal lenses have two distinct zones separated by a visible line. Less common today but still the right choice for some wearers.

Common questions
Can I use my NHS or private prescription?
Yes — we glaze lenses to any valid UK prescription, from us or another practice. Upload it here or bring it along.
How long do lenses take?
Simple single-vision prescriptions are often same-day. Varifocals and specialist lenses typically take 5–7 working days.
Do you offer payment plans?
